May 28, Powell River

Since we arrived at Powell River we have hiked two trails. One was to a high point in the area, the other was thru a rain forest. Bonnie used a set of metal spoons hanging from her jacket as a warning bell in case of bears. The Powell River area is surrounded by heavy forest and the bears are plentiful. While visiting uncle John and having coffee in the  backyard we spotted the same bear three times.. small bear, maybe young 2 year old. There was a shellfish festival on the weekend and we enjoyed music and food. Oysters are the big seafood harvest here. Enjoy the pics

May 22, Leaving Port Mcneill

May 22, we left Port McNeill and drove 3 hrs to Comox to catch the ferry to Powell River. We saw a bear on the drive down. The ferry ride was smooth and we arrived at Garnet Rock Rv at 3:30 at Powell River. This has the nicest scenery around.. our site overlooks the strait of Georgia. The area here is a kayakers paradise. We plan to do some kayaking and hiking .

May 17 Port McNeill

May 17 we packed up and left Victoria for a 450k drive north to Port McNeill to visit with Bonnie,s nephew & wife and our son Tim.Can’t go much further north than Port McNeill. You can see the mainland across the water with snow capped mountains in the distance., beautiful . The area reminds us of Newfoundland. Drove to Port Hardy and walked the waterfront. Also drove to Telegraph cove.. remote fishing village. Lots of bear around, warnings every where..Max $50,000 fine for feeding bears. We did see two bears .. one on the road to telegraph cove and the other on the day we left. After Port Mcneill ferry ride to the mainland to Powell river to visit more family.
